Foster Care Community of Practice Summary


CoP Description: Children in foster care constitute a vulnerable population who have historically experienced poor education outcomes relative to their peers with more stable family situations. Additionally, they also tend to experience a higher frequency of unscheduled school changes compared to their peers. As a group, children in foster care have significantly lower academic achievement and high school graduation rates, and significantly higher rates of absenteeism, grade retention, and exclusionary discipline.

Resource Allocation Reviews Community of Practice Summary

COMMUNITY OF PRACTICE: Resource Allocation Reviews

CoP Description: The Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) introduced a new provision that requires state education agencies (SEAs) to review resource allocation in districts that serve a significant number of schools identified for continuous improvement and a significant number of schools implementing targeted school improvement plans.

State Support for School Identification and Improvement Community of Practice Resources

This Community of Practice (CoP) helped participating SEA teams to examine the alignment (or lack of alignment) between their school identification methodology and the systems of support they provide for identified schools. This CoP also aimed to improve the tools, protocols, and technical assistance that SEAs use to support the district and school improvement planning process.
